New station Westway Radio to launch in Scotland

New station Westway Radio to launch in Scotland A new commercial radio station in Scotland aimed at audiences in Tayside and Fife is launching on May 2nd. Westway Radio is the venture of Station Director, radio presenter Jason McCagh, working alongside launch director and veteran broadcaster Ally Ballingall (Ally Bally). A six-figure investment to redevelop premises in Arbroath’s Marketgate into a two-studio complex will see Westway radio turn the focus on local broadcasting. Presenters signed up to spearhead the new venture include Ally Bally, Graeme Waggot, Richard Allan and Dave Price – all former station colleagues at Radio Tay/Bauer Media.

Martel Maxwell: I have a real soft spot for our Dundee celebrities

by Martel Maxwell © DC Thomson A column I wrote a few weeks ago got me thinking. The main piece covered the passing of former Dundee United manager Jim McLean. A smaller piece mentioned Tay FM’s Ally Bally, departing the station after 40-odd years. I couldn’t help but think it’s a bygone era of the Dundee celebrity. That’s not to say there won’t be plenty of people to come who are famous and from Dundee. People like Liz McColgan, awarded gold for the 10,000 metres in the 1991 World Championships, and silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games. © D. Jamieson

Ally Bally to leave Radio Tay after 40 years

Ally Bally to leave Radio Tay after 40 years He’s been at the station since it launched and now, 40 years later, Ally Bally is leaving Radio Tay. Ally first walked through the doors of the station whilst it was still under construction in August 1980 before the station went on air in October when he was a part-time weekend presenter. In 1981 he joined the station full-time as a sales executive but was determined to get behind the microphone and in September 1981 he took over the Breakfast Show from Mark Goodier. Ally said: “Although this year has been challenging for everyone, it has allowed me some time for reflection on what an amazing career I’ve had with Tay for the past 40 years. With this in mind, and with so many great memories under my belt, I feel it’s the right time for me to take on something new.
