LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ A community environmental group filed a lawsuit today challenging California fish & wildlife officials highly controversial approval last month of a project that would bulldoze the cherished Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve, located north of Los Angeles International Airport. Protect Ballona Wetlands petition for writ of mandate asks the Los Angeles Superior Court to set aside all approvals, alleging numerous violations of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The petition alleges that the project proposed was not adequately described, a complaint raised by federal agencies including the US Fish & Wildlife Service.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Two petitions were filed against the state Department of Fish and Wildlife challenging the state s approval last month of a project they say was approved without a full environmental assessment, and would bulldoze the Ballona Wetlands ecological reserve north of Los Angeles International Airport.
One petition was brought by community group Protect Ballona Wetlands and the second by another group, Defend Ballona Wetlands, along with biologist Robert Jan van de Hoek and Los Angeles City Council candidate Molly Basler. The two legal actions, filed Thursday, ask a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to set aside all approvals, alleging numerous violations of the California Environmental Quality Act. The petition alleges that the project proposed was not adequately described, a complaint raised by federal agencies, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

PLAYA DEL REY, CA The battle to save the Ballona Wetlands waged on this week as a petition opposing a restoration approved by the State garnered nearly 9,000 signatures as of Tuesday. It is under threat to be bulldozed and have more than 2 million cubic yards of life-filled soils excavated, moved around and re-sculpted, as if one can play Frankenstein with nature, the petition states. This plan is for an amusement-type park that would eliminate habitat for many of the rare species that rely on Ballona today . this is not a good use of public money that was meant for protection of wetlands, grasslands and other fragile habitats.
