Varanasi: Ballia police have arrested seven persons for attacking the family members of a girl in Uttartola area of Revati after she lodged an FIR against one Mahtab Alam for sharing her photo on Facebook. However, the main accused is still absconding.
According to reports, Mahtab Alam and his armed accomplices attacked the girl’s family of another religion on Thursday night, following which tension prevailed in Uttartola. ASP Ballia Sanjay Kumar said, “Police teams have been engaged for the arrest of Mahtab and some other accused persons who are still absconding. Police and PAC has been deployed in Uttartola as a precautionary measure to avoid further escalation of situation.”

According to reports, Mahtab Alam and his armed accomplices attacked the girl s family of another religion on Thursday night, following which tension prevailed in Uttartola area.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ballia Sanjay Kumar said, Police teams have been set up to arrest Mahtab and some other accused persons who are still absconding. Police and PAC has been deployed in Uttartola as a precautionary measure to avoid further escalation of tension.
Varanasi: Ballia police on Monday arrested five Samajwadi Party (SP) activists from the party s district unit office under Kotwali police station area for allegedly abusing UP minister Upendra Tiwari after declaration of results of zila panchayat chairman election on Saturday.
Former minister Ambika Chawdhary, his son and zila panchayat chairman Anand Chawdhary, SP district chief Rajmangal Yadav and many others were accused in an FIR lodged by Tiwari’s nephew Ashwini Tiwari in this connection.
A video of the incident showing the minister being abused by the supporters of Anand Chawdhary after the announcement of zila panchayat chairman election result on Saturday night had gone viral.

VARANASI: Ballia police arrested a youth and his father on Tuesday for rape of a minor girl and pressing for unlawful religious conversion.
The youth, resident of a village in Ballia, entered the house of the 14-year-old girl when she was alone and raped her.
He also made a video of the incident which he later showed to the girl to blackmail and force her into having a sexual relationship.
The girl’s father alleged when he requested the father of the accused to tell his son to delete the video, he instead advised conversion and said that either his son or he himself would marry the girl after it.
