Eight Inverclyde care homes were forced to close doors following coronavirus outbreaks

Inverclyde Health & Social Care Partnership says that when cases peaked in January action had to be taken. The Tele had reported how Balclutha Court in Greenock s west end was one of the homes affected. It was later praised by inspectors for its response. During the height of the pandemic last spring there were 40 deaths recorded in local care homes up until August. At the present time all but one care home in Inverclyde is clear of Covid-19. The health and social care committee chairman has praised both care homes and the HSCP for measures taken to protect the most vulnerable.

Greenock nursing home hit by coronavirus is praised by inspectors

A GREENOCK nursing home that suffered a coronavirus outbreak last month has been praised for its care and support after an inspection. Balclutha Court – which looks after more than 50 residents – was graded as adequate by the Care Inspectorate following a check-up focused specifically on how well residents were being looked after during the pandemic. Inspectors said they were unable to spend time speaking to residents about the service, due to people self-isolating following confirmed Covid-19 cases. But they hailed the Forsyth Street home for its support of people’s health and wellbeing, infection control practices, and staffing arrangements. A report summarising the watchdog’s findings said: “People were cared for by experienced staff members who knew people’s needs and wishes well.
