Congressman Kevin McCarthy Says BLM California Oil and Gas Lease Sale in Kern County is Encouraging Published: Monday, 14 December 2020 05:53
December 14, 2020 - Last week, Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement commending the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Bakersfield Field Office on successfully
conducting an oil and natural gas lease sale yesterday in Kern County for the first time in eight years. This lease sale comes after the BLM addressed multiple protests over the years and is consistent with a court-approved settlement agreement between the BLM and various environmental groups. In addition, any development projects on leased lands will still have to pass a rigorous environmental review, under the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act.

(CN) The Trump administration opened bidding for gas and oil drilling leases on California public land Thursday, putting 4,000 acres of resources up for sale in the first auction of its kind in eight years.
President Donald Trump has long planned to open the Golden State’s public lands and federal mineral estates to oil drilling and fracking operations, and his administration hatched designs for over 1.7 million acres of such territory in the Central Valley.
This past August, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management signaled an impending sale when it announced it would open bidding on federal lands in Kern County.
The Bureau of Land Management California completes oil and gas lease sale
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – In keeping with the Trump Administration’s goals of promoting responsible energy development, today the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) completed its oil and gas lease sale in California. For this sale, the BLM offered seven parcels totaling approximately 4,133 acres of Federal minerals. All parcels are in or adjacent to existing Midway-Sunset, and Kern Front Oilfields in Kern County. The highest per-acre price was $27, sold to Standard Oil Company, LLC.
The environmental analysis estimates that, based on development trends on new leases, up to 10 new wells could be developed across all seven parcels. More details about this lease sale in California are available online at https://go.usa.gov/xGxKz.
