(PNA file photo) MANILA - The number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in capital city Manila continued to decline as active cases are down to 50 after recording only three new cases on Monday. The city government reported that seven out of 17 areas did not record new cases Binondo, Ermita, Intramuros, Malate, Quiapo, San Miguel, and San Nicolas. Sampaloc has the most number of active cases with eight, Tondo 1 has seven, and Paco, Pandacan, San Andres, and Sta. Cruz reported six active cases each. No new death was listed and the fatality count remained at 1,899. The number of recoveries from the dreaded virus is now at 110,540 after three new recoveries were recorded. The city still allows walk-in individuals for vaccination in 44 health centers and four malls for the first and second dose, and booster shots, including minors. From 135 active infections on March 16, the number dropped to 115 the following day, and eventually to below 100 (97) on March 18. Of the total, 35 are in Tondo, 10 are in Sta. Mesa, and eight are in Sampaloc. Total recoveries have reached 109,820 out of 111,781 cases since the pandemic was declared in March 2020. The death tally has remained at 1,874 for five days now. To avoid future spikes in cases, the city government continues to strengthen its vaccination program with 57 sites that include four in malls, six in schools, Light Rail Transit-2 Recto station, Manila Zoo, and Bagong Ospital ng Maynila.
