PEOPLE
K9 Alex â OUPD
For another year, K9 Alex reigns supreme in terms of area law enforcement officer popularity. To be fair, most categories in our âPeopleâ section that find an animal as a nominee also find an animal as the top finalist. In K9 Alexâs case, itâs really hard to compete with those soulful, brown eyes.
Also garnering honors were Jimmy Childs, of the Athens County Sheriffâs Office, and Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith.
Local business owner/entrepreneur
Emily Christine â Tavolino
This yearâs top business owner or entrepreneur is Emily Christine, who owns and operates Tavolino. The restaurant is well known for its Italian cuisine, but many may also recognize it as a business that continually gave away free lunches â packed with fresh bread and hearty soup, no less â during the pandemic. Congrats, Emily!
Bagel Street Deli on Friday reported an overnight breaking and entering that left the business with both its front door and cash drawer damaged and its iPad stolen.
The break-in, which happened sometime between 8:30 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 a.m. Friday at 27 S. Court St., resulted in an estimated $1,200 in damages for the beloved Uptown deli, according to a report filed with the Athens Police Department.
Bagel Street has since asked the community for help finding the person responsible for the crimes. They called on anybody with information related to the break-in to contact 740-539-3838.
âThe thieves didnât get away with much, but we feel violated + sad. Twitter detectives, if you have any info help us out!â the business said in a tweet.
