44 Firms Make Top 500 Companies List for First Time amid Pandemic

Photo : Getty Images Bank Anchor: The list of the nation’s top 500 companies in terms of sales saw a major shift last year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Shipbuilding, steel and petrochemical companies saw their rankings slip while IT and service firms enjoyed higher rankings.  Our Bae Joo-yon has more.  Report: Statistics released by business data provider CEO Score on Wednesday showed that 44 companies for the first time made the list of the nation’s top 500 companies in terms of sales posted last year.  Many of the new players included distribution platform businesses, including Woowa Brothers Corporation, operator of the nation’s top food delivery app Baedal Minjok, as well as online grocery service Market Kurly. 

US Says Its N Korea Policy Aimed at Solutions not Hostility

Photo : YONHAP News Anchor: North Korea issued statements condemning the U.S. a day after it completed a months-long review of its North Korea policy and after U.S. President Joe Biden called the North a serious threat in his first address to Congress. In response to such statements, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stressed that Washington’s policy towards the North is aimed at solutions and not hostility.  Our Bae Joo-yon has more. Report: In an interview with ABC s This Week” on Sunday, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Washington is prepared to engage in diplomacy with North Korea. He stressed that the U.S.’ North Korea policy is not aimed at hostility, but solutions, and ultimately, the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. 

Samsung Family to Pay over 12 Tln Won in Inheritance Tax

Photo : YONHAP News Anchor: The family of late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee will pay more than 12 trillion won in inheritance tax and donate some one trillion won to combat infectious and rare diseases as well as childhood cancer. The heirs to South Korea s richest man will also donate artwork known as the Lee Kun-hee Collection to national museums.  Our Bae Joo-yon has the details.  Report: Late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee’s family said Wednesday that they will pay more than 12 trillion won in inheritance tax in accordance with related laws. That’s more than half of Lee’s legacy, which is estimated at 20 trillion won, including stocks, real estate and art.
