Town planners are asking whether a bypass will be needed to cope with extra traffic in the next 30 years.
Forecasts predict 30 per cent more vehicles will travel along the A6003 by 2030.
Uppingham Town Council is considering whether to set aside a belt of land for a bypass to be built should it be needed further into the future.
