UW–Madison to celebrate spring commencement with graduates-only ceremonies at Camp Randall For news media More information After a year in which students faced many challenges, University of Wisconsin–Madison leaders are pleased to announce plans to hold in-person commencement ceremonies for spring 2021 graduates at Camp Randall. The university is planning two ceremonies on Saturday, May 8 — one for undergraduates, the other for all graduate degree candidates. Because of the ongoing pandemic, these in-person gatherings will be limited to graduates only, no guests. Family members, friends and graduates who are unable to attend will be invited to watch a livestream of the ceremonies, among other virtual engagement opportunities.

Effective March 8, 2021, we are implementing PHMDC Emergency Order #13 related to university affiliated events on or off campus with one exception: the university is not allowing food or drinks at events. In addition, only those individuals who are participating in our on-campus testing program will be permitted to attend university-sponsored events.

Universities across Wisconsin drew up a variety protocols to combat COVID-19 on campus as classes resume for the semester and the schools of the University of Wisconsin System face the same challenge. To combat COVID-19 through the start of spring semester, UW-Madison adopted two major enhancements to ensure the safety of the campus community. The university adopted expanded testing requirements and a new app Safer Badgers according to the UW-Madison COVID-19 Response site. The recent introduction of the Safer Badgers app provides proof of students’ recent negative test results and the Badger Badge within the app must be shown in order for students to access campus facilities and services beginning February 10, according to the UW-Madison COVID-19 Response site.
