The Bad Axe Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee Contest was conducted a bit different this year because of the challenges and cautions to be taken in regard to COVID-19. Mr. Peter Batzer, principal of Bad Axe Middle School was very gracious and generous with his time and efforts to give his students the very best opportunity to compete in the annual Knights of Columbus contest. The winners were first place - Rayleigh McKimmy, Grade 5; second place - Cody Palmer, Grade 5; third place - Lihanna Howells, Grade 4; and fourth place - Ben Wilson, Grade 6. All of the winners will receive gift cards and will compete in further Regional Competition on Saturday, Feb. 27 in Merrill. Huron County fish fries going drive-thru only

With the COVID-19 pandemic still happening, some Huron County places that hold fish fries will be drive-thru or take-out this year. (Tribune File Photo)
With the COVID-19 pandemic still continuing through the Upper Thumb, organizations that put on fish fries during Lent are opting to have them be drive-thru only.
One place that is trying Lenten fish fries for the first time is American Legion Post 499 in Port Austin. They will be from 4 to 7 p.m., or until dinners run out on March 5.
Meals cost $10 and include fried fish, fries, cole slaw, baked beans, a roll, and desert.
