That’s not to say that Covid-19 didn’t have an effect on astronomy in 2020.
The biggest astronomical event of the year, the Dec. 14 total solar eclipse over portions of South America, got nowhere near the number of observers a typical total eclipse of the sun would attract. Observers and photographers from all over the world typically travel to solar eclipse paths, but the pandemic limited most observers to folks who already live in Chile and Argentina.
Christmas was affected by Covid-19, too. But if you got a telescope or a pair of binoculars for Christmas, there will be plenty of targets to point them toward in 2021.
