dnschanger, already has. still lurking in 250,000 computers worldwide, the u.s. alone, at least 50,000 computers will go dark if they don t apply a software patch to fix the problem. the world discovered dnschanger last november when the fbi busted a ring of estonians, whose malicious software re-routed users to fake and dangerous sites. you go to a website they control and they can go capture your password. reporter: the fbi said four million computers were affected in 100 countries. you can see the new infections lighting up this map earlier this year. after taking dns changer down, the fbi had to put up a backup system to keep people on line. the government they re trying to be helpful. the thing here was that this was indirectly relying on a piece of infrastructure that the bad guys controlled. reporter: it has been up for eight months. but the fbi will pull the plug on the computer life support system, and users will be on their own.
