public risk instead. that demanded the attention with the kids in the audience. right. exactly. but where i think the president has been constructive so far, as john said, we have to give him his due with the caveat he was constructive when it came to immigration. what happened? i am still looking for what happened to the immigration debate. i don t mean to be factious about that. this president had uniquely, when he complained about other people not doing things. now he said he wants to do it on guns. how do we strengthen background checks? the wall street journal this morning talks about strengthening the federal back ground check that is an existing bill that democrats opposed on principle grounds because there were concealed carry laws that were part of that across state lines that they oppose. bump stocks is a way to remedy it. the debate over banning assault weapons is one that will have to be joined again. that has a troubled history.
solutions, but what is lacking is that overall political will. the one place it seems like there s small momentum here, everybody says the right thing about background checks. everybody says it. it s sort of like, it s time to call some bluff s here. put more information in there. we could have some civil liberties arguments, i don t know if you ve been expelled, putting that into the system. i know some libertarian officials who would say that s not really fair. but it s an extended back ground check. remember when we had the patriot act? oh, my god, the government s going to be spying on me and all that stuff. we get the sweet spot, you make some mistakes, you find out things. but i think you re pressing the attorney general candidate, you pressing on the point he would not answer, this is not
he bought the gun legally and passed the back ground check. we don t know the time of the instagram comments. should social media be part of a background check? that s going to be interesting to do when you have such a large number of people who are involved or uses social media in this country and around the world. i think what we need to remember which is critically important is we have to say something when we see something. i know that sounds like an old adage that we hear all the time. particularly when we travel. it certainly has to have meaning in the environment we live in today. when we see that type of language and those types of threats and that type of uncharacteristic behavior of anyone on social media,
so, we did some digging to find out what is this office, it s essentially located right next door to the white house, they do not have a lot of employees. and the white house described it as the fbi takes their information that they get when they re doing a back ground check, they turn it over to the personnel security office and the personnel security office then goes from there to the white house counsel s office. but to be clear, this is underneath the umbrella of the white house. it s not some other building out in washington. it is part of the white house. so, the white house was not very clear on that, when they were explaining that today, saying that it goes through them, and a u.s. official told me colleague jeff zeleny that the security clearance office is akin to what the hr would be in a private sector, they re more of a clearing office and they do not make decisions, they essentially, anderson, take information and pass it on, which is not what the white house was saying to
house officials. the director of the fbi testified that it had completed its investigation to porter s back ground months ago. the response over here at the white house is anything but me, too. it is more like anybody but me. do you believe mr. porter s ex-wife? the allegations of domestic abuse have raised serious questions for west wing staffers. christopher wray disclosed what he knew about porter s back ground check and made jaws drop across washington when he said his agents completed their investigation last summer. the fbi submitted a partial report on the investigation in question in march. and then a completed background investigation in late july that soon there after, we received requests for follow-up inquiry.
