the census bureau right now is someone whose life has been writing books and doing redistricting work to try to bundle people in districts. this is not necessarily the intellectual back ground you want in positions that are arbitrating over everybody here. and that s a worrying trend. not just in the judiciary but in other aspects of the trump administration. i want to ask you sort of we ve heard so much from the president throughout the last year about the coal industry and bringing it back. we ve now seen rick perry had a plan out there. how are we going to subsidize these coal plants to really help keep them afloat. and now regulators, mostly appointed by president trump, have said no, doesn t work economically, doesn t work environmentally, not happening. how big of a blow could that be to the president? i don t know. i mean, everyone knew who s paying attention that saying you re going to bring back coal is nonsense. you re not just going to bring back coal
have you on. thank you. now for something completely different. the trump administration said this week, it s bringing back coal, despite admissions from the coal industry that it will nef really come back. and while america is going back to the 19th century, china is moving into the 21st, faster than anyone might have expected. i ll explain.

that if you protect the environment, you can t have a healthy thriving economy. that s just wrong. we have proven that over again over the years with more people using more energy watching our gdp grow from 2005 to 2010. and seeing reduction of the six worst air pollutants by over 67%. we can grow the economy with more people using more power. the problem here is that you are also rolling back regulations. they rolled back regulations on the safe water act that allows the companies now the mining companies, the coal mining companies, to put their tailings right on the rivers. that s not going to bring back coal. coal is going because of the low price of natural gas. what it is going to do is jeopardize the lives of those who leif in the valleys. scott pruitt was state attorney general who led the charge when several states fought this plan in the first place. this is a promise that the president made. for people out there who are concerned, is there any reason
back of the clean power plan? the good news is you don t do away with it with a wave of the wand. this is a rule making process. it s going to take time. they have to propose an alternative rule. they have to justify the science, which means the original finding that carbon was something bad for human health, why that no longer applies. tell us about a better way to do it. they will get masses of comments. then they have to answer the comments. the bad news is they are continuing on the path of rolling back, slow waug any enforcement of the regulations that we have in place. and they are going to make it much more difficult to move the utilities along where they need to be. it is a bait and switch. it s had the going to bring back coal. that s the dirty little secret. do you think they believe this is an economic necessity? do you think they don t believe in global warming? what do you think is behind this? they certainly don t believe in global warming. they see this it s easy
