Jaramogi Oginga Odinga s house in Jerusalem, Nairobi house has been marked for demolition by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) under Director General Mohamed Badi.
Kenya s first Vice President lived in the estate alongside former Presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki, top government officials and civil servants.
Jerusalem estate in Eastlands, Nairobi has over 2,000 houses. NMS outlined plans to destroy the estate to construct nearly 60,000 affordable apartments under its Improvement Programme Eastland Urban Renewal Plan.
Jaramogi s family have raised concerns over the destruction of the home which houses thousands of memories created since independence days.

The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has revealed that more houses in select Nairobi estates are set to be demolished in the ongoing urban renewal program.
Already works are underway in Pangani with housing units nearing completion. Also under phase one of the program are Jevanjee/Bachelors Quarters, Old Ngara, New Ngara, Ngong Road Phase 1, Ngong Road Phase 2, and Suna Road sites.
NMS revealed that the projects were at different levels of implementation.
Phase two of the project will affect buildings in Woodley, Ziwani, Bahati, Maringo, Jericho, Lumumba, Bondeni, California, Embakasi and Kariobangi North.
