PM Orbán: If we can fend off a third wave, we can reopen Hungary

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, in a radio interview on Friday, encouraged Hungarians to get themselves inoculated against the coronavirus, warning that the country was on the cusp of a third wave of infections. With a third wave of the pandemic hitting the country, people should make a rational, rather than an emotional decision on getting vaccinated, as it could even cost them their lives, Orbán told public broadcaster Kossuth Radio. “I ask everyone to register and go and get themselves inoculated and if possible, accept whichever vaccine they are offered,” the prime minister said. Over the past 24 hours, another 2,853 people in Hungary caught the coronavirus, reports koronavirus.gov.hu. Russian Vaccine Approved in Hungary, EU Authorization Has Yet to Begin Hungarian authorities have completed the final steps of authorizing the emergency use of  the Gamaleya Research Institute’s Russian vaccine. While Hungary no longer faces any obstacles in using Sputnik V, the rest of the European Union needs to wait until the European Medicines Agency authorizes its use, a process which has not yet begun. Minister of Human Resources Miklós Kásler posted on his Facebook page saying that the National Public Health Center (NNK) has licensed the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. Kásler said “from a medicinal efficacy perspective, the vaccine meets the specifications of the producer, and from an immunobiological perspective, it is usable on humans.”
