MALDEN, Wash. Washington Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz delivered a fire engine to Malden on Thursday, replacing the town s only firetruck that was lost in the Labor Day wildfire.
The Babb Road fire destroyed the entire town, damaging about 80 percent of homes in both Malden and Pine City.
In September, Franz toured Malden with its former mayor. That day, she made a promise that Malden would get another fire truck.
A fire engine was gifted to the town of Malden, on December 17th, by the Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz.
Franz drove the 620-gallon engine into the town and handed the keys over to Mayor Don Harwood near the fire station’s former site.
Residents have begun rebuilding after the Babb Road Fire burned almost 80% of the town, including the town’s lone fire engine which was still inside the fire hall.
Franz said, “While this engine is a small step in the enormous task of rebuilding Malden, it’s absolutely essential to be able to protect what is rebuilt.”
