The programme aims to promote the significance of pre-natal screening, counselling, prevention, management and treatment of thalassemia in a patient-centred manner.

HYDERABAD: A 55-year-old woman healthcare worker in Telangana, who received the Covishield vaccine on January 19 died late on Saturday, the third such death in the state since the vaccine rollout, but authorities said the woman had co-morbidities.
So far, four such deaths have occurred in the twin states, with one reported from Andhra Pradesh and all four had received the vaccine on January 19.
Health authorities said the woman was given the vaccine on the afternoon on January 19 at a primary health centre at Kasipet in Mancherial.
“On January 29, she complained of shortness of breath and giddiness for which she was admitted to a hospital in Mancherial. She was later referred to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad on January 30 by 6 pm and she died a few hours later at 11 pm,” an official statement from the state health department said.

Hyderabad: Two healthcare staff died yesterday in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh days after they were provided the Covishield vaccine.
While one death was recorded from Warangal in Telangana, the other was from Guntur in Andhra, taking the toll to three since the vaccination drive began earlier this month in both the states. The deaths were not related to the vaccine and it was coincidental, according to authorities in both states.
