An industry veteran with decades of experience has been selected to lead TowneBank’s insurance subsidiary. Towne Insurance has selected W. Douglas Russell as its new president and CEO. The insurance group has also expanded its executive team. In an interview, Russell said he has always had respect for TowneBank’s dedication to the Hampton Roads community. “Towne Bank is very committed to growth of the insurance operation,” Russell said. Russell said he has been working in the insurance industry for 35 years, most recently as president of Core Assurance Partners in Virginia Beach. After an opportunity to lead Towne Insurance presented itself in late 2020, Russel said he jumped at the chance to work for the company.

Effective February 16, 2021, W. Douglas Russell joined the Towne Insurance team as President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding F. Dudley Fulton who will remain with the company as President Emeritus serving in a consulting capacity focused on agency acquisitions. Russell, 58 years of age with over 35 years of insurance industry experience, has held leadership positions with Henderson & Phillips, Inc., USI Insurance Services, Thomas Rutherfoord, Inc., Marsh & McLennan Agency, and most recently as President of Core Assurance Partners headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
