The move comes four days after Azam, his wife Tanzeen Fatima, and Abdullah, a former MLA, were convicted and sentenced to seven years in jail in a 2019 case of alleged forgery of Abdullah’s birth certificate.
The Allahabad High Court had disqualified the son of senior SP leader Azam Khan after he had shown himself to be older than he actually was in his election affidavit.
Azam Khan has been grilled by the agency in the case when he was lodged in Sitapur jail. He is out on bail at present. He was released from jail in May after 27 months following the Supreme Court granting him interim bail in an alleged forgery case.
