Rafi Hossain:
Welcome to Uncensored with Rafi Hossain. Today, we are joined by a special guest, Kumar Bishwajit. Thank you for joining us today.
Kumar Bishwajit: Thank you for having me, Rafi Bhai. I am very happy to be here.
Rafi:
You recently made a song in tribute to Bangabandhu in celebration of his 100th birthday. What inspired you to do so?
Kumar: I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to witness the fight for the freedom of Bangladesh. I was not old enough to fight for liberation, but I was old enough to understand what was going on. I was around seven or eight years old, and I had seen a lot of the war. With us reaching the fiftieth anniversary of our independence, I felt that I should also celebrate the man who led us to that independence. I m blessed to sing about Bangabandhu. We are all grateful to him for what he has done for us. Without his contributions, we would not be able to call ourselves Bangladeshi. The song that I made about him was amazing. Ga
‘Rupali Guitar’ needs attention
This Rupali Guitar sculpture at Prabartak intersection in the port city is hugely popular, but its upkeep remains irregular with construction happening nearby. Photo: Star
On a visit to Prabartak intersection in the port city last weekend, Chittagong University student Apu Saha became shocked to see the battered state of the sculpture Rupali Guitar, which had been installed in remembrance of the late and great musician Ayub Bachchu.
A layer of dust was covering the guitar while the surrounding fountain and garden were in a shabby state. Apu, a dedicated fan of Bachchu s music, was rightly angered to see the lack of maintenance done by the city corporation for upkeep of the sculpture.
The Covid-19 pandemic rendered the music industry into disarray for the first few months, one which it tried hard to fight back. Even though the year is musical activities were largely limited to online releases and live concerts on social media, we did see a number of notable releases from artistes.
The announcement of renewed activities from Bangladesh Lyricist, Composers and Performers Society (BLCPS) to ensure artistes intellectual property rights was a welcome one.
An initiative was taken by the government to preserve 272 songs by legendary musician and LRB frontman Ayub Bachchu.
Eminent singer Sabina Yasmin expanded on her illustrious career by debuting a music director in the film Ei Tumi Shei Tumi .
YouTube. Monir Khan s song,
Onjona 2020, got over one crore views. Imran gifted his listeners by releasing both audio songs and movie songs. The song he did with Kona for the film
Bishwa Shundori, called
Jani Pabona also got a lot of attention from fans.
