Each centre to give 500 doses per day The Greater Chennai Corporation will launch temporary vaccination centres at all the 15 zones on Monday.
The civic body on Sunday announced on Twitter the sites of the temporary vaccination centres. Both Covishield and Covaxin will be available at the centres.
Due to supply constraints, Covaxin will be available only for those who are due for second doses.
Corporation schools at seven locations such as 59th Street, Second Main Road, MMDA, Mathur; Coronation Nagar, Korukkupet; Wall Tax Road, Sowcarpet; Madhavaram High Road, Perambur; Market Road, Ayanavaram; Madhanandhapuram, Mugalivakkam and Kamaraj Avenue, Adyar have been converted into vaccination centres.

CHENNAI: Only about 35 per cent of beds are vacant in Chennai’s tertiary hospitals as of April 18, according to data shared by the health department.
Out of the 4368 available beds in the five hospitals (RGGGH, Stanley, KMCH, Omandurar, and Kings), 2826 beds are occupied and 1542 beds are vacant.
Out of the 4363 beds, suspected Covid patients occupy 714. Officials say they would continue to be under treatment until they test negative.
Doctors with the government hospitals said that bed status keeps changing every hour and presently, young patients with Covid are showing severe symptoms.
“It is a double challenge as both young and the elderly are coming now. However, we are ramping up beds adequately and creating newer wards. There won’t be any shortage,” said a doctor of a popular government hospital, who did not want to be named.
It plans to increase the number of screening centres The number of COVID-19 cases in the second wave is higher than the peak last year, said Corporation Commissioner G. Prakash.
Launching COVID-19 screening centres in the city, he said the number of cases detected a day had touched 2,500, which was higher than last year. “We have increased the samples to 20,000 every day. We will increase the samples to 25,000 shortly. The case load will decrease by testing, isolating and treating the positive cases. We have created screening centres at 12 locations for positive patients,” Mr. Prakash said.
The civic body is planning to increase the number of screening centres to more than 15 shortly. Residents who have tested positive are requested to visit the screening centres.
