Dr Sumon Poddar, associate professor at the Institute of Child Health, Kolkata, said, “If the room temperature becomes high, the newborn babies can suffer from sudden water loss in their bodies. Children younger than two should not be taken outdoors in this weather."
Addressing a press conference earlier this week, Regional Meteorological Centre (Kolkata) deputy director general Sanjib Bandyopadhyay had said, “The westerly and northwesterly dry wind are prevailing in and around the state, so the temperature is estimated to be 1°C or 3°C higher than the average temperature.”
The location of the protest, which entered its 62nd day on Wednesday, was close to the Shahid Minar Ground where Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was addressing a public meeting.
