Following their peaceful protest of the City of Cape Town’s recent impoundment of 43 taxis on Monday, the EFF said that the DA-run metro was purposely targeting the industry due to a hidden agenda.
ANC provincial spokesperson Muhammad Khalid Sayed said the party is unhappy with the EFF labelling the march as a shutdown, saying they only support a peaceful resolution to taxi industry disputes in the city.
The strike is set to be held on Monday, with the EFF in the Western Cape calling for the release of impounded taxis by local authorities in the DA-run city and province.
The City of Cape Town is believed to have held an operation in Langa that impounded some minibus taxis in the area but did not confirm how many vehicles were impounded and why.
