upkeep for these folks. this is just an ongoing thing that we can t keep going down this route. and i, you either give us a border, or we re not going to give you a budget. that is an overwhelming message. what came out of that meeting is that i think the speaker s, he is, he is throwing into the deep and, literally, this thing, he is trying to do the best he can. i think i as conservatives, we have to give him this support that he needs. i don t think our country can withstand much more of this. on the question of support for speaker johnson, you were one of a small group of people who voted to oust the former speaker, kevin mccarthy, over a deal that was very similar to what johnson has struck with schumer. there are members of your congress who are leaving the door open to potentially revisiting that now with speaker johnson. what is your message to those folks? well, it is a good message. again, we are 34 trillion
and that s in the face at least with respect to the legislators of an explicit constitutional privilege. i don t view united states against johnson ex parte as resting on the ministerial versus discretionary distinction. what johnson says, it doesn t say hey when you were doing these other things, they were ministerial, what it says is these were not legislative acts. to draw the distinction between legislative and nonlegislative acts, i think that s the right reading of ex parte virginia. they say judicial act. the argument of picking a jury, i don t believe they use the word to my recollection ministerial, they say because they were picking the jury based on race is a criminal act. and whatever johnson did, i think it was the very same statute, fraud against the united states, that is before us today. i would say the distinction in those cases is between in the judicial case johnson sorry legislative the legislative
question if you do want some kind of deal. we ve seen many of these trips down to the border over the years. and usually they are just used to reaffirm already very deeply held views. what johnson does here, obviously he is a new speaker, he has taken a new approach to this job. so it will be very interesting to see how he handles this. jackie, what is your sense of how the border state governor strategy of sending these migrants north to blue cities, often sanctuary cities, what impact is that having on the debate? it is having a huge impact on the debate because you see these governors really sorry, these big city mayors saying to the biden administration, listen, are you not helping us, we need your help. and it is putting pressure on biden from the left much more so he is used to it from the right of course. but now he s hearing it from allies and who really need who he needs particularly in an
