Awarded every year since 1984, 100 bikes are given out to children ages 5 to 17 who show exceptional courage in difficult situations or whose actions have had…
Sun Youthâs 37th Annual Bike distribution took place June 19 at the Howie Morenz Arena on Querbes, during which 90 youngsters âwho stood out by their good deeds or who have shown extraordinary courage when facing exceptional circumstances,â were rewarded.
Eleven other youngsters were rewarded at an event in May.
The event was launched in 1984 thanks to the financial support of philanthropist Avi Morrow, who chose to remain anonymous during his lifetime and was known to the general community as Mr. Bike Man. Morrow passed away in 2019 â he would have turned 96 this past May. The distribution is continuing with the support of his family.
Â
Since 1984, the event has been made possible through the support of philanthropist Avi Morrow. To celebrate his birthday, Morrow would selflessly give away new bikes, helmets, and locks to deserving children served by Sun Youth. Thanks to Morrow, over 1900 bikes have been distributed. Sadly, Avi Morrow passed away in 2019. But to pay tribute to Morrow and his generosity, this yearâs event will celebrate his life.

At Jarry Park (at the corner of Gary Carter and Saint-Laurent), everyone is invited to meet Sun Youthâs young ambassadors of tomorrow. Each youngster will receive a cupcake, a merit certificate, and of course, a bicycle. This is only the first round. By the end of the year, a hundred more kids will be honored.
