The winners of Livermore’s seventh annual “Poetry in a Test Tube” contest were announced last week during an awards ceremony at the Civic Center Library.
The theme this year was âWithout Water, Life Would Be Pretty Dry.â
Placing first in the annual contest were Sunset Elementary third-grader Stella Marcel, Rancho Las Positas fourth-grader Yul Kim, and Sunset Elementary fifth-grader Kayla Dippo.
Second place went to Altamont Creek third-grader Utsha Dey, Emma C. Smith Elementary fourth-grader Selina Sharma, and Altamont Creek fifth-grader Angeline Roy.
Third went to Emma C. Smith Elementary third-grader Prabveer Singh Sarang, Leo R. Croce Elementary fourth-grader Jacob Ryan, and Leo R. Croce Elementary fifth-grader Avery Lockhart.
The contest was open to all third, fourth and fifth grade students enrolled in a Livermore school or living in the city. It was sponsored by California Water Service, Livermore Municipal Water, and the Zone 7 Water Agency.

In the Youth Division (kindergarten through fifth grade), first place went Avery Lockhart, Leo R. Croce Elementary, for âRain, Rain, Where Have You Been?â Second place went to Caleb McWhorter, Emma C. Smith Elementary, for âThe Egret,â and third place went to Imogene Lockhart, Leo R. Croce, for âMy Little Seed.â
Middle School Division: First place went to Nathanael Resong for âThe Life of a Star;â second went to Friedrich Hohensee for âRift;â and third went to Colton DeGroat for âZap.â All three attend Mendenhall Middle School.
