“For more than a year now, thousands of families throughout Coachella Valley have lost their jobs or had their work hours drastically reduced due to the effects of COVID-19,” Ross said. “This rental assistance program is for both those who are behind as well as those struggling to pay their rent due to these dire circumstances.”
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors voted in February to approve $57.3 million in emergency rental assistance program funding from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Landlords with tenants with unpaid debt balances are encouraged to notify their tenants about the program.

Cathedral City voters will head to the polls on Tuesday to decide whether most short-term vacation rentals in the city should be phased out by 2023.
A “yes” vote on Measure B upholds Ordinance 842, which includes the phase-out provision passed by the Cathedral City Council last September. A “no” vote will revert to a prior set of regulations on short-term rentals in the city.
On Monday, supporters of Measure B held their final rally. About 25 people gathered at the corner of Highway 111 and Cathedral Canyon Drive, to wave signs that said, No to Party Resorts, Defend Our Neighborhoods, and Neighborhoods are for Neighbors.
Due to a recent change in state law, all registered voters in Cathedral City will be sent a vote-by-mail ballot for Tuesday s special election on short-term rentals, regardless of whether they requested one.
Initially, voters were told that they needed to request a vote-by-mail ballot for the Measure B election on March 2. This differed from the Nov. 3 election, when vote-by-mail ballots were automatically sent to every voter under a 2020 state law.
But on Feb. 19, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 29, which requires that vote-by-mail ballots be automatically sent to registered voters for all elections in 2021. In response, the Riverside County Registrar of Voters mailed ballots to all registered voters in Cathedral City for the upcoming election, according to a news release Friday.
