Just one week after an exciting, come-from-behind 95-91 win against West Chester Henderson, the Downingtown West girls’ swim team battled to a back-and-forth 94-92 victory against previously undefeated Avon Grove Wednesday at the Lionville Community YMCA.
The Avon Grove High School girls swimming team opened its season with an impressive 114-51 win against Oxford on Friday in front of a spirited crowd at the Jennersville YMCA, while the Hornets prevailed in the boys meet, 88-61.
Last winter, the Chester County high school swimming scene featured a District 1 champion in Conestoga and the Daily Local News Girls Swimmer of the Year in Downingtown East senior Alexa Fulton. The Pioneers lost four All-American swimmers to graduation, and Fulton is now swimming for the University of Texas, but there are plenty of other fine swimmers to watch in Chester County this winter.
