Vehicles with Autosweep RFID tags now at 2.7 million, says SMC Share on email San Miguel Corporation (SMC) reported that 2.7 million vehicles now have Autosweep RFID tags. The figure doubled the number of stickers the company issued to motorists from 2015 to 2019 totaling 1.3 million. “More and more people are realizing the benefits of cashless transactions along our toll roads especially in this pandemic. It saves motorists time and money as it cuts travel time and reduces fuel consumption. Apart from that, it helps in improving air quality along our road systems,” SMC president Ramon S. Ang said. Earlier, SMC also reported that use of electronic toll collection at its expressways have increased to 84.9%, despite the continuing availability of cash lanes.

SMC reports 85% usage rate on RFID lanes Share on email San Miguel Corporation (SMC) reported that cashless electronic toll collection for motorists who use both the Skyway and the South Luzon Expressway has increased to 85%, despite the continuing availability of cash lanes, as government has yet to fully implement its mandate of 100% cashless transactions at all expressways.    SMC, which operates the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway, and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), said the higher utilization of Autosweep RFID toll collection has significantly improved traffic throughput at its toll plazas.  “Since December, and even through January and February, there has been a big improvement in traffic throughput at almost all our toll plazas, as majority of motorists have followed government’s safety protocol of using electronic toll collection.
