Fast renewable energy awards by govt seen

PETALING JAYA: Expectations are high among the investment community for further renewable energy (RE) plant awards by the government via the continuation of large-scale solar (LSS) contracts. Following the robust bidding for the recently concluded LSS phase four tenders in March, TA Research said this was likely to lead to an acceleration of new LSS tenders. “We believe that RE plant awards will continue to be dished out rapidly. This is likely through LSS tenders for plant capacities below 50 megawatts (MW), ” TA Research said in a report.

10 listed firms win LSS4 projects

. Tan Chong Motor will undertake its LSS4 venture via a consortium comprising its two listed sister companies, APM Automotive Holdings Bhd . Except for Tan Chong Motor, Advancecon and MK Land, all shortlisted bidders won 50MW in LSS4 capacity each, which is the maximum capacity allowed for a single bidder. “Actual financial details of the individual LSS4 projects are still sketchy at this point, pending further disclosure by the respective companies. “As a ballpark figure, however, we estimate about RM11mil to RM13mil incremental annual Ebitda for the 50MW LSS4 assets, assuming a project IRR of 6% to 8%, capital expenditure (capex) of RM2.5mil per MW, capacity factor of 16.7% and average tariff of 18.7 sen to 21.7 sen per kwh, ” MIDF Research said in a note yesterday.

KLCI edges up cautiously ahead of Bank Negara interest rate decision

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 20): The main index at Bursa Malaysia edged up cautiously in early trade Wednesday, ahead of Malaysia’s first interest-rate decision of the year when Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) monetary policy committee meets later in the day. At 9.05am, the FBM KLCI was up 2.67 points to 1,604.55. The early gainers included United Plantations Bhd, JF Technology Bhd, UWC Bhd, APM Automotive Holdings Bhd, KESM Industries Bhd, Public Bank Bhd, Khind Bhd and Unisem (M) Bhd.
