Rotork Joins Endress+Hauser Open Integration Partners Program

Open Integration Network Eases Interoperability Challenges Rotork’s recent entry into Endress+Hauser’s Open Integration partner program highlights the growing trends of greater industry collaboration and open standards. May 7th, 2021 Although the digitalization of industry has brought with it the potential for incredible productivity gains, it hasn’t been without its challenges. Namely, as more data has begun to be traded between disparate systems and devices, interoperability has emerged as one of the biggest hurdles to ubiquitous Industry 4.0 implementations. This interoperability challenge is largely due to the reliance of many automation suppliers on proprietary technologies to maintain their customer bases. Fortunately, this strategy is beginning to fade as more companies realize it holds back innovation, frustrates end-users, and ultimately does them more harm than good.

Users Unite as the Open Process Automation Journey Continues

Users Unite as the Open Process Automation Journey Continues From the evolving standard to test labs, movement to an interoperable framework is taking shape. But the OPAF group is asking for more help from manufacturers. Feb 17th, 2021 Despite the disruption to business that the pandemic has caused, the Open Process Automation Forum (OPAF) has not skipped a step in its effort to create a collaborative control architecture. Since the formation of OPAF in 2017, the group now comprised of around 135 members from suppliers, system integrators, academia, and end user organizations has been on a mission to design and deliver a modular, scalable, and interoperable framework that can mix best-of-breed technologies and applications from a variety of industrial systems suppliers.

Schneider Electric Calls for Greater Cooperation Around Interoperability

Schneider Electric Calls for Greater Cooperation Around Interoperability With a software development focus around IEC 61499, a new alliance with Wood, and continued work with the Open Process Automation Forum and ZVEI, Schneider Electric helps push the universal automation concept. Feb 11th, 2021 A few years ago at the annual ARC Advisory Group’s Forum, ExxonMobil made clear its intention to use of open, interoperable automation and control systems a move that ran counter to many technology suppliers’ business models built on closed, proprietary systems. Following from that announcement, the Open Process Automation Forum (OPAF) was launched to help direct and coordinate efforts around helping ExxonMobil’s vision become a reality for industrial manufacturers and processors as a whole.
