WHEN GENERAL MOTORS announced plans to slash its domestic work force in 2018, company stock soared 5 percent. LaToya Ruby Frazier, a Chicago-based artist whose photographs and videos champion unsung members of the working class, was furious. She decided to embark upon a new series devoted to the autoworkers who were contending with the possible loss of their plant in Lordstown, Ohio; they would be the subject of an upcoming exhibition and a published photo essay. The barricade came down at the Windsor Assembly Plant Tuesday after Unifor Local 444 and Stellantis agreed to a deal to pause to search for a solution to the labour dispute that had threatened the facility’s minivan production.
“Former (Auto Warehousing Company) Unifor workers are back on the job as Stellantis and Unifor continue discussions,” said Stellantis Canada head of communications Lou Ann Gosselin. “Regular production continues at the Windsor Assembly Plant.”

The blockade originally went up Jan. 4 as a result of a dispute between Local 444 and Motipark, which won the Stellantis contract to take over the processing and lining up of minivans for shipping from Auto Warehousing Company.
A Unifor blockade at the Stellantis Windsor Assembly Plant is being removed after a dispute involving the union, the automaker and a contractor, the union says.
Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, is sending a message to employees Monday morning regarding a second blockade at Windsor Assembly Plant.
Stellantis warns Unifor blockade could halt operations at Windsor factory
Stellantis is warning that if production at its Windsor Assembly Plant is affected by a Unifor blockade, workers won t get paid for any time the factory is shut down.
