elwyn lopez is in detroit for us tonight. reporter: after days of protests that brought this crucial trade route between the u.s. and canada to a standstill, police today putting an end to the week-long blockade. if you have a vehicle that is parked in here, we re asking you to move it. reporter: towing cars and pick-up trucks and arresting a handful of protesters. our ashan singh on the border as authorities moved in. reporter: law enforcement has made its last push to clear protesters out of the way. they re about a mile from the bridge entrance and there s no protesters left. reporter: the mayor of windsor stating the economic crisis at the ambassador bridge came to an end. and experts say the reopening of northamerica s busiest border crossing couldn t come soon enough. it s just one more thing that is challenging auto production. i would think the plants would start up early next week. reporter: but in buffalo, similar protests converging at
threat. we know that already gm, ford, toyota, and honda have all had their auto production impacted in part or in whole at some of the factories. business groups are sounding the alarm, they re urging officials on both sides of the border to try to get this resolved because we have to remember, there is a lot of integration between the u.s., mexican and canadian economies, particularly when you talk about the auto industry and auto parts. there is not just a canadian auto industry. it is really a north american and global auto industry. that s why there is these ripple effects. it could really impact people, i think, around the country in terms of prices. we already saw car prices in january jump by a record 12%, that was new cars and trucks. used cars up by 40%. parts up as well. it is hard to see how any of this can help the situation. i think the real impact is going to be determined by how long these disruptions last and how
