The next day more senators called on Senator Menendez to resign, and tonight the total stands at 30 who have called on their colleague to resign. And of course not one republican senator wants menendez to resign because republicans know the longer Robert Menendez tarnishes the position of senior senator from new jersey, it will be that much easier for republicans to win that new Jersey Senate seat in next years election. It should have never have come to this. After Robert Menendez got a hung jury in his First Federal corruption trial, which means that some of the jurors voted guilty and some of the jurors voted not guilty. for him four years ago and expressed what many democrats say in the polls at least that a tough economy under president obama has made their life harder. joining me now ben labolt, obama campaign national press secretary. thank you very much. what do you say to michael jones. thanks for having me on. about his doubts and katherine fenton still undecided after last night s debate, doesn t feel her questions were really answered. well, y heard the president outline the progress we ve made since the financial crisis last night, losing 800,000 jobs a month when he came into office, businesses have created more than 5.2 million jobs, manufacturing is resurgent which had been in decline, auto industry back, investing in areas like community colleges and working training to ensure our workers haves the skills needed to compete in the 21st century economy and i think he exposed governor romney s plans for what they were, a tax deal. middle-class families that their taxesens would go up.
many policy issues and the president laid out path forward. it was a really three-day lead-up. gretchen: how do you respond to now today to what the president said just last year that look, if i can t fix this economy in my first term, then i should be fired? he didn t say that last night. look, i think the american people are going to make the choice about who they re going to send to the white house. gretchen: that s what he said. but you know, egot more work to do. we know he s had a lot of accomplishments he s very proud of. the affordable care act, saving the economy from the brink, bringing the auto industry back. but there is more to do. he talked about that last night. that s why he wants to go back. gretchen: you told me earlier you do not expect to see any bounce. no. gretchen: don t most presidents expect to see some sort of a bounce from a convention? mitt romney didn t get a bounce. we ve long said we didn t expect to get one. we know this election is close
