Benjamin Doherty liked the small, intimate pod system that Shemesh Camp at Martin Pear Jewish Community Center created last summer as a measure of protection against COVID-19. As a kid who can get easily overwhelmed by the chaos of large groups, the campâs shift away from bigger cohorts worked well for him. Being with the same small group of kids also helped him develop better relationships.
âBenâs been diagnosed and is on the light side of the (autism) spectrum,â said Nomi Doherty, Benjaminâs mom. He is entering his fifth summer at Shemesh on June 1, and Doherty gives the camp a lot of credit for its efforts to make every camper feel at home.

Military members and their families across Arizona, ready to serve and help without hesitation. When they are the ones in need, however, the Military Assistance Mission (MAM) is there to offer support.
MAM helps with everything from financial aid to morale support, by making sure military families don t miss major milestones hosting baby showers and holiday events.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MAM launched a new program Operation Distance Learning to make sure Arizona military families have adequate devices for virtual learning. MAM put out the call to the community for help, and received laptops which then made it into the hands of military families in need.
