Austrian Wine to host stay at home tasting for the trade

24 February 2021 By db staff The Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB) is hosting a ‘stay at home’ UK trade tasting in April where attendees can select 12 wineries out of a possible 50 to sample from. Austrian Tasting UK – The “Stay at Home” Edition will be held on 12 April from 9:30am to 4pm. Held in collaboration with the Austrian Embassy and the Austrian Trade Commission in London, the virtual event will give sommeliers, press and the trade the chance to taste in the comfort of their own home. Those taking part can select 12 wineries – four each from three groups ordered by region – at of a select of 50 and will receive a box of samples prior to the event. Each wine will be packaged in 100ml bottles.

Alongside this, a growing number of consumers are discovering the styles produced from grapes grown in countries that have a longer growing season, often with warm summer days followed by drops in temperature at night. Laura Jewell MW, Wine Australia’s regional general manager EMEA, says Australia’s cool-climate wines are winning many fans. “Alternative varieties can be found in many regions across Australia,” she says. “Examples from cool-climate regions include Grüner Veltliner in Adelaide Hills, Chenin Blanc in Margaret River, Gamay and Nebbiolo in Yarra Valley, Tempranillo and Vermentino in Mornington Peninsula and Gewürztraminer in Tasmania.
