Juan Manuel Correa announced his return to racing on Monday after recovering from the severe leg injuries he suffered in a 2019 Formula 2 crash in which Anthoine Hubert died.
The 21-year-old said he would drive for the ART F3 team.
“Announcing my return to the race tracks is one of the proudest moments in my professional career,” Correa said in a statement, promising to honour Hubert’s memory.
“My dream is still to reach F1 and this is the first step in my comeback.”
Hubert, 22, died after he crashed and his stationary car was then hit by Correa’s during the Belgian Grand Prix support race at Spa-Francorchamps.
Australian and Chinese Grands Prix postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions Wednesday, 13 January 2021
The 2021 Formula One season is set for a delayed start following the postponement of the opening race in Australia over COVID-19 restrictions.
Bahrain is now set to host the first race of the season on March 28, with that initially having been the second on the calendar.
The third race of the season, the Chinese Grand Prix, has also been postponed due to coronavirus restrictions in place in the country.
Australia and China both require international travellers to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival, hence the races in Melbourne and Shanghai being delayed.
