Australia provides AU$ 5 million to support Bangladesh’s Covid-19 preparedness and response Photo: Collected Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne has announced providing AU$ 5 million (Tk 330 million) to the Red Crescent to support Bangladesh s Covid-19 preparedness and response.  This funding will be provided through the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and will be used to procure and distribute essential supplies, including oxygen and related equipment, to help communities withstand the health and social impact of the pandemic, said the Australian High Commission in Dhaka today.  The funding is in addition to the AU$ 5.7 million Australia provided last year for personal protective equipment, Covid-19 awareness campaigns, and emergency food and income support.

Foreign diplomats in Bangladesh start getting vaccinated Diplomats of different foreign countries based in Dhaka started receiving Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday. The Bangladesh government has arranged vaccinating the foreign diplomats. Some 30 foreign diplomats and family members of some of the diplomats of India, European Union, Germany, Turkey, France, Italy, Australia and Vatican City got vaccinated on Wednesday. Besides, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen received vaccine on the day. Receiving the vaccine, Shahriar Alam said the Bangladesh government has started vaccinating the foreign diplomats. “Some diplomats will receive vaccine today (Wednesday) and more than 1,200 diplomats living in the country will be vaccinated in phases,” he said.
