World War II: How the Dutch East Indies Finally Fell To Japan

World War II: How the Dutch East Indies Finally Fell To Japan The capture of Java by the Japanese was the culmination of a long series of disasters for the Allied nations in the Pacific. Here s What You Need to Know: As the Japanese rolled over the defenders of eastern Java, the Allied defenses in the western part of the island also quickly unraveled. Immediately after the Japanese attack on the United States Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, the Japanese realized that the oil reserves needed to carry on their new war against the Western powers were not as adequate as first thought.
