Toyota Australia has locked in a mid-year launch for the new Prado, confirming drivetrain specifications and its variant line-up. The 2024 Toyota LandCruiser Prado will arrive with five grades, starting with the base GX, up to the existing peak Kakadu spec, and will introduce a new off-road focused ‘Altitude’ variant.
Toyota has announced it will re-open orders for the V8-powered LandCruiser 70 Series, but not until it has managed to cut down the waiting times for the iconic ute. But in the meantime, the new four-cylinder turbo-diesel variant of the 39-year-old has arrived in Australia.
With the imminent arrival of the next-gen Toyota C-HR comes the end of its place as Toyota’s most affordable offering in the ‘Small SUV’ category.
Think back to your first car. Depending on your vintage, it was probably something Australian and rather second-hand, or something Japanese and not too old. A hand-me-down Holden Commodore-slash-Kingswood, Ford Falcon, a used Toyota Corolla or Yaris, even something like a then-near-new Hyundai Excel or Getz.
Delivery delays and a pause on orders for the V8-powered version of the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series haven’t dulled the brand’s enthusiasm for the model, with an updated version of the rugged workhorse set to launch locally in November this year.
