Tim Revell runs Austin Marathon to raise money to cure Duchenne

Tim Revell is about to run his 16th Austin Marathon and break an even more important mile marker: He will have raised $200,000 for CureDuchenne by running the Austin Marathon.  The national nonprofit funds research for Duchenne, a form of muscular dystrophy. Both of Revell s sons have the disease, which affects only boys.  Like most Austin runners, Revell wasn t sure if this year s race would happen. The race was postponed from its usual February date because of the COVID-19 pandemic and is being run both virtually and in person on April 25. The in-person race will be only a half-marathon or a 5K.

Revell’s sons Tim and Andrew were both diagnosed with the rare and deadly disease, inspiring his determination to fight for a cure. After sixteen years, he will exceed $200,000 in donations raised in 2021. Their current fundraiser is hosted on GoFundMe.

Dedicated dad hopes to run down cure for a rare disease A father of two boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy is running the Austin Marathon to raise funds toward pursuit of a cure for the rare, fatal disease. When doctors diagnosed Tim Revell’s sons were diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Timothy, at age two, Andrew at five), they didn’t give the Austin dad much hope. The rare, which affects one in 3,500 boys, is 100% fatal. However, Revell and his family refused to give up hope. He and his wife Laura rolled up their sleeves and began researching the insidious rare disease and looked for organizations and resources that they could connect with.
