0 our breaking news coverage continues here on cnn. i m live here in boston, massachusetts. i m jake tapper. i m john berman. it is 5:00 a.m. in the east. what a night. what a night it has been. a massive dramatic police operation unfolding just outside of boston this morning. they are going door-to-door looking for a man who fits the description of boston marathon bombing suspect number two. that is the man seen wearing the white cap in the photos you have been looking at. listen. what we are looking for right now is a suspect consistent with the description of suspect number two, the white-capped individual who was involved in monday s bombing of the boston marathon. they have also revealed that suspect number one is dead. you may know him as the man wearing the black hat in the photos. this is a warning, people near watertown, massachusetts, eight miles outside of boston, are told to stay inside. do not answer the door unless the people at the door can clearly identify themsel
0 these gun battles. the gun battle itself happened around 10:48 p.m. we see according to the justice department context at 11:18 last night dzhokhar was able to drop by the bank here in watertown and withdraw money from the bank of america. now beyond that i want to update you as far as the context, and as far as the timeline how this all transitioned from the early reports we got that this was a common robbery, a violent robbery, one that took a police officer s life, but something that wasn t necessarily connected to the bombings, to something that was a pursuit of the bombers of the boston marathon. this information coming to us from dave from the massachusetts state police. he said the first point that made them aware who they were dealing with happened at the 711. he said that piece of evidence that came from the 711 was obvious, meaning the photograph that we have now sheen, the picture that we have seen of dzhokhar tsarnaev with the gray hoodie. they identified him, they knew t
0 now. suspect number 1 has ladies and gentlemenedly been shot and killed. suspect number 2 the kid with the white hat is on the lose in the watertown area they are going door to door. the video we showed a third suspect someone with their hands out on the ground face down, allegedly he has been taken into custody. there likely is a third suspect here? could be or a person caught up in it or maybe they were connected or perhaps they were roommates or did they give them shelter. these answers we don t have. someone is told get down lay in the street and don t move. he agrees with the officer s orders. i can t tell you what his connection is if anything. the police have been going door to door in watertown. they have been going through people s backyards they have been opening up open or ajar doors. it could be anybody at this point. as far as we know one person is dead, one of the suspects is dead, another one still at large. this has been a massive manhunt all through out the nig
right outside of our apartment there were two shooters in between a sedan and a black mercedes-benz suv. they were in between these two cars taking cover behind the black suv, shooting down our street, which is laurel street. they were shooting westward, which looked to be about six to ten watertown police army vehicles. they were shooting about what seemed to be 70 to 80 yards down the street utilizing handguns. while they were engaging in gunfire, they were also using explosives. it looked to resemble a pressure cooker, from what i ve seen from other pictures online in the last few days. i saw them light this bomb. they threw it towards the officers, and it only got maybe 15 to 20 yards down, so it wasn t very close to the officers, but it really created a significant decoy. there was smoke that covered our entire street. at that point, one of the shooters ran towards the officers while still engaging in gunfire. while he was still shooting at them, a few seconds later, the
