American Legion Post 4 in Norwich selling building to start over

NORWICH During its final day serving as the home of American Legion Post 4, piles of trophies sat in the entranceway. A man bought a pool table. Movers packed a truck with items taken from the hall.  The building on 457 Laurel Hill Road in Norwich served as the long-time home of the 100-year-old American Legion Robert O. Fletcher Post 4. But through the years, it became painfully clear it was time Post 4 found another home.   “The building isn’t what makes the American Legion post,” Post Commander James Robertson said. “It’s the membership that makes it.” Debts pile up Debts have piled up at Post 4, and toward the end of 2020 officials decided to sell their building to Wiese Construction in Norwich. The sale will be finalized on April 28. While Robertson doesn’t know yet what the building or site will be used for, he said the decision to sell was important to keep the post in good financial standing.
