Hospital beds running out for covid19 patients
Bed spaces at hospitals treating covid19 patients is running out.
According to Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards, principal medical officer in charge of institutions, on Saturday, overall hospital capacity in the parallel health care system was 64 per cent.
During a press conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s on Saturday afternoon, she said 73 per cent of the beds in Trinidad were full, as were 25 per cent in Tobago.
Caura hospital was at 78 per cent, Couva was at 71 per cent, Arima at 85 per cent, Augustus Long at 90 per cent, and overnight, St Ann’s went from zero to 18 per cent.

HEALTH Minister Terrence Deyalsingh implored people to protect their loved ones from covid19 infection by not congregating for Mother s Day on Sunday, addressing a briefing at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann s on Friday. If we treat Mother s Day as another excuse to gather at the homes of our mothers, we may not have those mothers for Mothers Day 2022. If you love your mother, Mother s Day 2021 is the mother s day where you show your love by staying away.

THA Assemblyman Farley Augustine is calling on all leaders throughout Trinidad and Tobago to use their influence to remind people about the absolute need to be very careful as covid19 infections soar.
At a virtual news conference on Thursday, Augustine said the covid19 situation is “nowhere where we hope we should be as a country.”
Last week, Health Secretary Tracy Davidson-Celestine said bed capacity for covid19 patients was at 65 per cent. On Friday, principal medical officer Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards outlined the gravity of the situation in Trinidad. She said the bed capacity at the Caura hospital was 98 per cent full, 75 per cent at Couva hospital, almost 100 per cent at Augustus Long hospital and 60 per cent at the Arima hospital.
