WAYNESBORO RISE, a Black community advocacy group calls on the FBI to investigate the Augusta County Sheriff s Office.
On May 20, RISE released a statement after two police shootings took place within one week, both involving the Augusta County Sheriff s Office. The organization is asking the FBI to investigate ACSO under use of excessive force and attempted murder.
The two shootings have been referred to the Virginia State Police for investigation, RISE stated in their press release that it wants to see an investigation outside of the VSP. The history of misconduct and the State Police’s failure to effectively investigate allegations of theft of evidence, corrupt payoffs by the sheriff, violence against people in custody or misuse of VCIN (Virginia Criminal Information Network) create a foundational lack of confidence in the investigation being handled by the Virginia State Police, the press release states.
