James Brown Mural
Located at Ninth and Broad streets, the James Brown Mural The Spirit of Funk is a great way to look through the Godfather of Soul s incredible career. Artist Cole Phail, from Appling, painted the mural, which was unveiled in October.
“It has been such a blessing to do this project,” Phail said at the unveiling. “I hope it can, in some small ways, inspire artists and musicians alike. I hope this mural is a reminder to those that knew him and an introduction to those that don’t.”
The mural was made possible through a grant from the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau with a matching fund component from the city.
