[applause] this is the first book i ve written where there s an actual same storyline running through it. it s a true story of about basically 10 days of london in 1854. it s a story of an incredibly terrifying outbreak that took place during this period, an outbreak of cholera. the first half of the book is really quite sobering and frightening in some ways as this outbreak just devastates this neighborhood, the western edge of soho. but it also turns into being actually i think a much more optimistic story because the events of this little stretch of time turn out to be central to solving he riddle of where the cholera was coming from, and that ultimately setting up the series of current public health initiat
