He was beaten, abused, not knowing from day to day if he would be shot or spared by his captors. But was he the victim of his own actions . Why did you decide to go to syria in 2012 to report on the conflict there . You know, it was a very dangerous place, it still is. It was certainly dangerous at the time, but i mean, i felt that i could avoid the worst of the dangers. I felt the real danger to me at the time, i thought, was the regime.
